Celebrating New Beginnings

On Thursday, May 30, 2024, we had a grand opening celebration and ribbon cutting. It was a beautiful day- perfect weather to celebrate a new chapter in Arundel House of Hope’s history.

The day started with a ceremony and ribbon cutting. Mario Berninzoni, our executive director, acknowledged the many people and agencies who helped obtain the new space and assisted with funding and construction when we learned our lease would not be renewed at our original location. Executive Stuart Pittman gave a speech about our positive impact in the community, how important non-profits are to the community, and how non-profits can easily act and pivot when needed (such as when Covid-19 pandemic hit.) Erin S. Karpewicz, the Chief Executive Officer of ACDS, also spoke. The ribbon was cut by Mario Berninzoni, Executive Pittman, Councilwoman Julie Hummer, and Delegate Mark Chang. The ribbon was held by many AHOH staff members; Bob, Millecent, Debra, Charity, and Emma.

After the ribbon cutting people took tours of the new facility, enjoyed breakfast and lunch, and celebrated together. We also had a Resiliency Resource Fair for individuals experiencing homelessness or housing insecurity. Local agencies attended the fair and handed out resources, give aways, and provided services. The AACPL handed out 46 free Chromebooks to eligible residents, 16 individuals received haircuts from Salon Thairapy, and Community Health Ambassadors provided Narcan training and Narcan kits. In addition, the AACO Department of Social Services provided tents and hygiene kits.

We estimate 150 people came to the Grand Opening Celebration. We saw many friends, supporters, and participants throughout the day. It was a wonderful event, and we are thankful for everyone’s support!
